Satellite TV Information
A satellite is defined as an object that orbits
around another object in space. The satellites that are used for
your tv system send television signals directly to your dish. These
satellites are required to be in a special type of orbit, so a little
information about orbits in general is the best place to start in
the understanding of satellite tv system basics.
The time that it takes for any given satellite
to make the completion of an orbit entirely depends on how far it
is from the object that it is orbiting. For example, our moon is
a natural satellite that is located approximately 238,328 miles
from the Earth. It takes the moon 27.32 days to complete just one
orbit around the Earth. Another example is the space shuttle. It
operates in what is known as a low Earth orbit. The shuttle's orbit
varies from less than 200 miles to around 350 miles over the Earth.
The average time that it takes for the space shuttle to complete
it's orbit around the Earth is somewhere around 90 minutes. The
moon takes a longer period of time to complete it's orbit of the
Earth due to the fact that it is at a much greater distance from
the Earth than is the space shuttle's orbit. The orbit that is needed
for tv satellites that send television signals to the Earth is somewhere
between the two extremes described above.
Satellite TV History
Many years ago, at the time when satellite TV
was first born, you would see a number of home
satellite tv systems that took up half the yard. Most people
were not willing to deal with the expense or effort that was required
in order to use this technology and so they just stayed with cable
or used 'rabbit ears' to get reception for their television entertainment.
It was not until the discovery of a brave new technology that made
it possible for people to use smaller dishes with direct broadcasts
of digital data that was compressed, that satellite television really
took off in the home entertainment genre.
The consumers demanded a more 'theater like'
experience in the their homes. This was created by the steady increase
of home theater surround sound systems, DVD players, and other technological
advances. The rise in the demand for digital satellite tv was overdue.
This was especially true in the more rural areas that had been historically
ignored by the cable companies.
Satellite TV Today
These days you can take a drive through almost
any neighborhood and witness DirecTV or Dish Network dish set-ups
that are mounted on the roofs or in the yards of just about every
other home. The digital quality of DSS programming as well as the
price per month being well below the cost of cable are the main
reasons for satellite tv's ability to proliferate. The cable TV
companies have made many attempts to fight back especially when
they were able to launch digital cable. Some cable companies really
have come sort of close to having a similar quality of digital satellite
programming. However, with the rates and fees of digital cable rising
each year, consumers are taking full advantage of all the free satellite
TV offers for free installation and free limited time programming
that the current satellite television providers have to offer.
Satellite TV systems are so superior that they
have by far become the leader in television entertainment systems
for people living in the United States. It doesn't really matter
where you live, as long as you have a clear view of the southern
sky, and if you do then you should be able to get any of the digital
satellite deals that are being offered. Satellite TV systems from
Direct TV and the Dish Network have superior digital picture and
sound clarity when compared to cable. You can get a Satellite Dish
and Reciever system from one of several online retailers for DIRECTV
and DISH Network. Click the link below so that you can compare and
decide for yourself. Each one of these satellite tv companies offers
a free digital satellite television dish and receiver, free installation,
free delivery and free activation with reasonably priced channel
packages.
