Dish Network

Dish301: This model is Dish Network's most popular standard receiver. The Dish301 has all of the functions that you would find in a top-of-the-line receiver. This would include instant remote-control access to the Dish Network Electronic Program Guide, Interactive TV features, V-Chip parental control locks and automatic/manual event timers. All of this would be located in a base that is compatible with just about any niche of a home entertainment center and it is small enough that it can be used as a set-top box. It comes standard with 1 S-video output, 1 set of RCA-type A/V outputs and a phone jack.

Dish 501 / 508 / 721: These are Dish Network's integrated personal video recorder (PVR) satellite systems. These systems use advanced digital television recording and playback technology to give viewers the option of choosing how they want to watch television. They can skip through commercials on recorded programs, rewind sports to make instant replays a snap or even pause live TV in the event that they need to temporarily move away from the tv for whatever reason.

Dish 6000U: This High definition television (HDTV) receiver gives you the ability to view your television programming in a whole new way. You will be able to enjoy sharper images and clearer sound. It includes picture quality that is 6 times greater than with standard television. This receiver allows you to view standard or high definition programming.

In general, there are many different types of receivers that can be used for the Directv service. You can buy this satellite equipment under brand names such as Panasonic, Hughes, RCA, Samsung, Sony, etc.

Advanced Systems

DirecTV with TiVo: This will allow you to integrate any DirecTV programming package with up to 35 hours of digital recording without the use of videotape. You can even record two different shows at the same time. It also allows you to be able to pause and replay live television.

DirecTV with UltimateTV: This would let you have the best of two worlds. You would get to enjoy DirecTV Programming as well as UltimateTV Services from Microsoft. You get digital video recording, live TV controls, interactive TV, and Internet accesswith this system. If you opt for a system with dual satellite tuners then you can record two live shows simultaneously or watch one show while recording another.

DirecTV with AOLTV: This system connects directly to your television. It allows you to view complementary web sites while you are watching TV. It also allows you to be able to share photos or send and receive e-mail. This system does have a built-in parental control chip.

DirecTV with DIRECT INTERACTIVE: Some receivers include this as a free service. It gives you access to weather information, up-to-the-minute news, sports and the ability to interact with certain programs and order products right from your television.

DirecTV with HDTV: This option enables you to be able to enhance the reception of your TV signal and take advantage of benefits that you can get from High Definition Television and Dolby Digital surround sound. There are basically two ways that you can get high-definition programming with the Directv service. You can buy an HDTV set thath already has the DirectTV System receiver built into the television. The second way to do this is to order a Direct TV multi-satellite system receiver and then connect it to a high-definition-ready digital TV. In both of these cases you would need to have a 18" x 24" oval DirecTV Multi-Satellite dish.
