About Dish Network
Dish Network is a satellite TV system and service
provider brought to you by Echostar. It all started in the 1980’s
when they were distributing older C Band satellite equipment. Being
an innovativecompany, the Dish Network developed a positive reputation
in the direct broadcast satellite tv industry. Their successful
start in the DSS market got started when their parent company, Echostar,
filed for a DBS license with the FCC in 1987. They were given access
to a satellite orbital slot at 119 degrees west longitude in 1992.
At this time they were able to secure the Dish Network brand name
and move on to provide their own direct broadcast satellite services
worldwide in 1995. That same year Echostar I, their first satellite,
was launched into space.
During the next five years Dish Network was
able to obtain several more orbital slots and so they launched six
additional satellites with the Echostar name. They now have nine
satelites in orbit around the earth. Dish Network has over 20,000
employees. They have the ability to give the consumer television
programming in 100% digital quality. Dish Network is proud of the
fact that they have the lowest priced digital broadcast services
in the U.S. In 2004 their base of customers went over the 10 million
mark. Most people end up switching over to the Dish Network for
their all digital TV programming at low monthly rates.
Dish Network has a basic channel line up and
premium movie channel lineup that rivals what is offered by Directv.
They also offer an all digital crystal clear picture with superb
sound. Dish Network is currently the lowest priced all digital satellite
television provider in the U.S. They also offer full HDTV and DVR
packages for the people who are serious about their home entertainment.
Some of these features are being offered for free by authorized
retailers nationwide.
The DISH in Dish Network is an acronym for
Digital Information Sky Highway. They offer different packages with
a choice of over 256 channels including sports, movies, news, and
international channels. Another nice feature of the Dish Network
is that it offers 31 channels of CD-quality music. If you happen
to order a special package, you may be able to view up to 500 channels.
Like DIRECTV, the Dish Network provides digital programming and
requires an 18 inch satellite dish. Most offers now include a free
dish as well as other equipment.
Dish Network offers three main types of receivers:
the standard, PVR, and HD receivers. With the standard receiver
you get the program guide, interactive tv features, v-chip parental
control, and event timers. If you opt for the PVR receiver then
you can get TIVO features such as pausing, recording and skipping
commercials. The HD receiver option enables you to be able to watch
programs in both high-definition format and regular format. If you
want to be able to watch pay-per-view events then each of your receivers
has to be connected to a phone jack (each receiver that you want
to use for pay-per-view).
America's Top 50 is a low priced package that
seems to please most people. America's Top 50 includes the best
in entertainment, sports, news and children's programming. All local
packages have now included PBS, WB, and UPN. Local channels are
not available in all areas. It is suggested that you check with
your provider before signing up for service.
Overall, the Dish Network is a great value and
a valid alternative to Directv or cable television. You can use
